Maleny event cancelled over Foot and Mouth fears

THE Curated (side) Plate ‘Celebrating Maleny Dairy Producers’ event has been cancelled with organisers fearful of the risk of an outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease.

Maleny Cheese, Maleny Dairies and Maleny Food Co. all agreed to cancel the event, which was to be held this Saturday, “due to potential biosecurity risk of a Foot and Mouth Disease outbreak in Australia”.

“This is a precautionary measure to protect the health and wellbeing of the cows and calves in the local area,” the organisers said in a statement.

“Although the intention is to announce a new date in future for this event to take place (outside of The Curated (side) Plate 2022), ticketholders have been contacted directly and refunds issued. We thank you for your patience and understanding.”

Foot and Mouth has not been detected in Australia, however an outbreak in Indonesia has the livestock industry fearful that travellers could unwittingly bring it into the country and decimate the sector.

The Government on Saturday made it mandatory for all travellers returning from Indonesia to clean their shoes and walk over sanitation mats to prevent an outbreak.

Organisers of The Curated Plate said other events would continue to go ahead with tickets available to a number of family-friendly events and hinterland experiences throughout the program, including:

🍽 ‘Seasonal Tastings – Winter’ at The Falls Farm

🍽 ‘Bush Tucker and Botanics’ at Maleny Botanic Gardens

🍽 ‘Brunch on the Balcony’ at Mapleton Public House

🍽 ‘Meet Matt at the Markets’ at Eumundi Markets

🍽 ‘The taste of Switzerland with a Sunny Coast twist’ at The Outback Chalet
