LONG-time Maleny Show exhibitor Di Pratten has been recognised on a national stage, featured in The New Blue Ribbon Cookbook, a beautifully produced publication celebrating the rich traditions of agricultural shows across Australia.
A familiar figure in the Maleny Show pavilion, Di has been part of the event’s fabric for more than three decades.
Beginning in the dairy section, she built a reputation for dedication and excellence before expanding her talents into the cooking arena in 2010 a move that would see her become a consistent prize-winner.
Originally travelling from Toogoolawah, Di exhibited cattle at Maleny Show for over 30 years before relocating to Conondale’s Carters Ridge in 2007.
Her transition into cooking came naturally. “I decided to enter some cooking while helping prepare the cattle, and after winning a few prizes, I just kept going,” she said.
Known for her creativity and willingness to adapt recipes, Di credits feedback from judges and stewards for refining her skills. Her much-loved ‘Famous Savoury Scones’ have become a family favourite, developed over years of experimentation.
Di is one of a select group of cooks from across Australia featured in the new cookbook, which showcases stories, recipes and traditions from the country show circuit.
