Maleny Singers bring hilarious operetta to life

THE timeless wit and musical brilliance of Gilbert and Sullivan will take centre stage in Maleny this June as The Maleny Singers present the comic opera Patience at the Maleny Community Centre.

Set against the flamboyant world of the Aesthetic movement, Patience is a sharp satire filled with exaggerated romance, poetic nonsense and the famously over-the-top “stained-glass attitudes” that made the era of Oscar Wilde so memorable.

Audiences can expect colourful costumes, witty dialogue and some of Gilbert and Sullivan’s most entertaining music when the production opens for four performances on June 13, 14, 20 and 21, with all shows beginning at 2pm.

First performed in London in 1881, Patience became one of the duo’s greatest successes and remains a favourite among lovers of comic opera.

This local production will feature talented Sunshine Coast performers accompanied by a live orchestra, offering theatre-goers a rare chance to experience classic Gilbert and Sullivan live in Maleny.

Organisers say the family-friendly production promises an afternoon of laughter, music and theatrical fun while showcasing local artistic talent.
