Premier Steven Miles and Bundaberg MP Tom Smith have marked the rollout of the Miles Government’s 20 per cent reduction in vehicle registration costs, delivering significant savings for Queenslanders.
The discount has been applied to light vehicle registration renewals issued since Monday, 5 August, for regos due from 16 September 2024, and can be paid anytime before the due date.
In the Bundaberg region alone, more than 127,000 eligible vehicles are registered to private owners and businesses. The savings range from $69.35 for smaller vehicles, including electric cars, to nearly $200 for larger vehicles with seven to eight cylinders. The most common vehicle type, a standard four-cylinder car, will see savings of almost $85.
Funded through a $435 million package as part of the 2024 State Budget, the initiative is one of many cost-of-living measures, contributing to over $11 billion in concessions this financial year.
Bundaberg MP Tom Smith said the government was delivering record relief. “Rego is another essential bill, and giving hard-working Queenslanders a 20% discount will put money back into the pockets of Bundaberg families.”
Premier Steven Miles reaffirmed the commitment, stating, “My government is proud to be putting money back in the pocket of as many Queenslanders as possible.”
