Miles Government’s Workforce Attraction Scheme Boosts Queensland Health

The Miles Government’s Workforce Attraction Incentive Scheme has attracted 1,320 health heroes to join Queensland Health in just over a year.

The scheme, which has a 95 per cent retention rate, has brought more than 240 doctors and over 800 nurses to hospitals across the state. Around 73 per cent of these frontline workers are delivering high-quality healthcare in regional, rural, or remote areas.

The Workforce Attraction Incentive Scheme offers interstate and international health workers a $20,000 payment for joining Queensland Health, with a $70,000 payment for those taking roles in rural or remote locations.

A recent international recruitment drive by the Miles Government attracted more than 7,000 health professionals interested in moving to Queensland, resulting in 123 candidates being offered positions in Townsville, Cairns, Mackay, West Moreton, and the Sunshine Coast.

Premier Steven Miles highlighted the scheme’s success, stating, “Our Workforce Attraction Scheme has helped bring more than 1,320 doctors, nurses and health professionals into our health system, in every part of the state.”

Health Minister Shannon Fentiman reinforced the government’s commitment to healthcare staffing, stating, “Despite a global workforce shortage, our campaigns to attract more health heroes are working.”
