Murder, mystery and mayhem at Maleny RSL

A MURDER most foul will set the stage for a night of intrigue, deception and vintage glamour when Maleny RSL hosts a 1930s-themed murder mystery fundraiser next month.

Set in 1930, the story centres on insufferable family matriarch Barbara Paige Turner, who meets an untimely end after summoning her entire family to the launch of her explosive tell-all memoir.

With motives aplenty and secrets simmering beneath the surface, everyone is a suspect – but only the sharpest sleuths will uncover the truth.

The interactive event will take place on Friday, February 6, with proceeds supporting the Sunshine Coast Hinterland Writers Festival, helping bring authors and literary events to the region in May 2026.

Throughout the evening, suspects will share their stories, reveal hidden clues and expose long-buried family secrets.

Guests, working in teams, will interrogate the characters and piece together the evidence before each table delivers its final verdict on who committed the crime.

Adding to the fun will be prizes, raffles and a strong dose of 1930s flair, with attendees encouraged though not required to dress the part.

Teams of six to eight people can book a table, or individuals can be placed in a team by contacting organisers.

Tickets are $35 per person and include an evening of entertainment, with a potluck dinner and drinks available for purchase from the bar.

The event begins at 5.30pm for a 6pm start at Maleny RSL, promising a night of mystery, laughter and community spirit. More details email: admin@schwritersfestival.com.au
