MALENY’S Queensland Country Women’s Association branch has marked another year of strong community service, electing a new president while celebrating almost a century of local volunteering and fundraising. Members and community guests attended the branch’s annual general meeting last week, where retiring president Marlene reflected on a busy and successful year.
The branch hosted a range of fundraising activities, including morning tea caterings and Sconversation Spaces at the Maleny Show and Maleny Farm Fest, raising funds for the QCWA State Disaster Fund, International Rural Women in Action Fund, the Maleny Show Society and a local sporting identity.
Members also continued their commitment to community and international projects, with the branch’s Kits for Kids program remaining a major focus.
Incoming president Karen officially began her tenure by presenting a bundle of protective shoulder covers to the Glasshouse Parrots in Paradise Sanctuary. The covers were handmade by members using repurposed sheets and bed linen.
President Karen said she looked forward to building on the branch’s long tradition of community service. “CWA is all about connecting – with women and our community – and I am looking forward to continuing this strong connection that has existed for 98 years in Maleny,” she said.
