Sixteen new social homes have been completed in Caloundra as part of the Miles Government’s Homes for Queenslanders plan, offering accessible housing for older Queenslanders and people with disabilities. Built over three levels, these one-bedroom homes were developed on a site that previously housed just two homes, making the most of the available land.
This project is part of a broader effort to increase social housing across the Sunshine Coast, with additional homes being constructed in Yandina, Little Mountain, Beerwah, Nirimba, and Maroochydore. Recently, an affordable housing proposal for 90 homes in Birtinya was lodged for fast-tracked approval, and over 100 homes will receive funding through the government’s Incentivising Infill Development Fund.
Housing Minister Meaghan Scanlon highlighted the government’s commitment to increasing accessible housing. “What was once two houses in Caloundra has been turned into 16 more accessible homes for older Queenslanders,” she said. Member for Caloundra Jason Hunt celebrated the project’s impact on the community, noting the well-located homes near shops, services, and transport.
New tenant Neville Wulff, 84, expressed his excitement about the new home, praising the design and the relief from rental concerns. He’s also looking forward to enjoying nearby Moffatt Beach for fishing and relaxation.
