New youth foyers to support at-risk young Queenslanders

The Crisafulli Government will deliver eight new youth foyers across Queensland to support young people facing homelessness, as part of its Securing Our Housing Foundations Plan.

The new facilities—first to be located in Cairns, Hervey Bay and Moreton Bay—will expand on existing foyers in the Gold Coast, Logan and Townsville. Each provides young people aged 16 to 25 with safe housing, education and employment support.

“Youth foyers like the one on the Gold Coast help ensure vulnerable young people don’t fall through the cracks and get the support they need to turn their lives around,” Housing Minister O’Connor said.
“We will help keep more young people off the streets by delivering this successful model across the State.”

Foyer residents pay 25% of their income and stay for an average of 18 months, receiving wraparound support to transition into independent living.

Jackson Hills, Acting CEO of QShelter, praised the Government’s 20% funding uplift for specialist homelessness services.
“The commitment to eight youth foyers across the state reinforces Queensland’s leadership in addressing youth homelessness through proven, impactful solutions,” he said.

Maria Leebeek of Gold Coast Youth Services added: “These models provide not just accommodation but a foundation for education, employment, and personal growth.”
