A HINTERLAND road washed away during the 2022 floods still remains closed more than 540 days since the devastating natural disaster.
The Kilcoy-Beerwah Rd at Cedarton was severely damaged in February last year when a drain failed and the road slipped following days of heavy rain.
The road, with 1900 daily vehicle users, has since been reduced to a single lane, with local MP Andrew Powell saying he was frustrated at the lack of action by the State Government.
Repair work has been further complicated by the geography challenges of the site which is situated on a steep embankment.
Mr Powell acknowledged the difficulties, but said TMR struggled to provide a concrete answer behind the delays.
“When is enough, enough? After two years? Three? The Minister and TMR are treating our communities and commuters with contempt and I won’t stop till we get a timeline for reopening and construction,” he said.
“I get the project is complicated and that we need to get this right but where is the timeline?”
Mr Powell added that the road was well-utilised and drivers deserved to know when this section will be restored to two fully functioning lanes.
A Transport and Main Roads (TMR) spokesperson said the Kilcoy-Beerwah Road is one of 450 projects that are being managed following the 2022 floods and “the program of rectification works is being delivered progressively”.
“The Kilcoy-Beerwah landslip site, is still under consideration as part of a broader program of recovery work and we are currently in the process of finalising detailed design and undertaking procurement for construction across the program,” the spokesperson said.
“The timing of construction for the Kilcoy-Beerwah Road landslip site will be confirmed once the detailed design is finalised, after all engineering events are fully considered.”
