MEMBER for Glass House, Andrew Powell, has been handed responsibility for Queensland’s Olympic preparations at a critical stage following the decision by Tim Mander to stand aside as Olympics Minister amid an electoral enrolment investigation.
Mr Mander announced last Thursday he would step aside from cabinet while the matter, which has been referred to federal police by the Australian Electoral Commission, is resolved.
In a statement, Mr Mander said he had referred the matter himself and had “no intention of this becoming a distraction to the important work of the Government”.
Premier David Crisafulli has now transferred the key Olympics portfolio to Mr Powell, who already serves as Queensland’s Minister for the Environment, Tourism and Science and Innovation.
