CINDERELLA, a traditional pantomime first staged in a small New Zealand village in 1992, is being revived on the Sunshine Coast 34 years later with its original writer and director at the helm.
Pat Atkinson, 86, is directing for Caloundra Chorale and Theatre Company during the June–July school holidays.
Her husband Tom, 88, who played an Ugly Sister in the original show, returns to the stage as Town Crier and chorus member. Co-directed with Paula Stephenson, the production features 12 principals and 15 ensemble cast members.
Staged in Victorian pantomime style, it includes audience participation, music hall songs, dames played by men, and female Cinderella and Dandini.
Pat said she is “having the time of my life” and hopes audiences embrace boos, hisses and “he’s behind you” call-outs. Tickets Bookings are essential via www.trybooking.com/DKTUD or phone 0490 329 912.
