SUNSHINE Coast animal lovers have dug deep at the weekend, with the eighth annual Paws for a Cause Long Lunch expected to raise close to $50,000 for the Sunshine Coast Animal Refuge.

Held on Saturday, May 16 at the Bloom Hill Wellness Centre in Buderim, the sold-out event hosted 100 guests for a three-course lunch with paired drinks from Thistle in the Woods.

Organisers say the money will help cover vital care for cats and dogs, as well as much-needed electrical upgrades and solar batteries for the refuge’s 47-year-old facility.

Guests were treated to a very tangible connection to the cause, meeting 11 kittens, four puppies and four other dogs throughout the afternoon.

Regular supporters returned in force, with a lively atmosphere helped along by emcees Caroline Hutchison and Sammy “Muirhead” from Mix, and a rare day of sunshine perfectly timed for the largely outdoor event.
