ONE of Australia’s most celebrated classical musicians, internationally renowned pianist Piers Lane AO, will join emerging Australian talent Ruby Luck for a rare collaborative performance in the Sunshine Coast hinterland next month.
The acclaimed duo will perform at Lucas Parklands, Montville, on July 2, bringing together one of the country’s most distinguished concert pianists and a rising star whose career is attracting growing national attention.
Mr Lane, widely regarded as Australia’s most successful classical music export, has performed in more than 40 countries and earned an international reputation for his versatility across solo, chamber and concerto repertoire. His appearance at the intimate Lucas Parklands auditorium is expected to draw strong interest from classical music enthusiasts across the region.
Joining him on stage will be Melbourne-based pianist Ruby Luck, an award-winning performer who studied at the Queensland Conservatorium and is currently undertaking advanced piano studies at the Australian National Academy of Music. Luck has built an impressive reputation as both a soloist and chamber musician, performing with leading Australian and international artists in a range of ensemble settings.
Lucas Parklands host Ian Lucas said the pairing promised a unique musical experience.
“Both these artists are unique, have been making their individual marks on the classical music world, are so very different but have a shared love for the piano – to have them perform here together will be something very special,” Mr Lucas said.
“I’m very curious and excited to see how these two very special performers impress us together.”
Mr Lucas said the concert would also hold special significance for Luck, whose parents live near Maleny.
“It’s a very lovely opportunity for Ruby, who has a personal connection to the Hinterland, so the performance will include that special element as well,” he said.
The program will feature Johann Sebastian Bach’s Toccata in C minor, BWV 911, a selection of Frédéric Chopin preludes performed by Mr Lane, and a rare four-hand presentation of Johann Nepomuk Hummel’s arrangement of Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 24 in C minor.
The performance forms part of a strong 2026 concert season at Lucas Parklands, which will also feature young virtuosos Reuben Tsang and Madeleine Xiao in August, Melbourne pianist Berta Brozgul and Sydney-based Eugenie Tamplon in October, and a return appearance by Mr Lane later that month.
Mr Lucas said the series provided local audiences with access to world-class performers without the need to travel to major metropolitan centres.
