Qld probes federal enviro law impacts

THE Crisafulli Government says it is committed to “unlocking productivity for Queenslanders” with a new inquiry into the impact of the Federal Government’s 2025 environmental legislation.

The Queensland Productivity Commission (QPC) will examine changes to the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999, which stakeholders say are increasing regulatory burden, compliance costs, uncertainty and delays for projects across the state.

Treasurer David Janetzki has directed the independent body to conduct a public inquiry into how the changes are affecting Queenslanders, including implications for jobs, investment and major project approvals.

The QPC inquiry will also assess economic impacts, effects on agricultural production, land value and land management, as well as risks to major resource projects.

Mr Janetzki said stakeholders had raised concerns that the reforms could slow approvals and increase costs, affecting economic growth at a time when Queensland is seeking to accelerate development.

The inquiry will run for 12 months.
