QPS Welcomes 122 New Recruits in Final Graduation of 2024

The Queensland Police Service (QPS) celebrated a milestone year with the graduation of 122 recruits at the final ceremony of 2024. This marks a record-breaking year for the service, which inducted more than 940 officers in total and saw a 53 per cent increase in applicants compared to November 2023. Over 2,200 applicants remain in the pipeline heading into 2025.

This twilight graduation caps off a historic year for the QPS academies, which inducted their largest number of recruits in 26 years in May and recently set a record for recruits in training across Brisbane and Townsville.

At the Oxley ceremony, Commissioner of Police Steve Gollschewski APM praised the graduating class and reflected on the year’s achievements.
“The QPS has been passionately committed to our recruiting efforts and strategies, so it’s wonderful to welcome another large cohort of recruits to wrap up 2024,” he said. “Our recruits represent the rich diversity of our service, underscoring our commitment to fostering a workforce that understands and supports the communities we serve.”

Despite the success, no new recruits were assigned to Sunshine Coast police stations.

Among the graduates was First Year Constable Emmanuel Andruga, who moved from Uganda in 2010 and credited the Multicultural Recruit Preparation Pathway (MRPP) for his success. “The MRPP was instrumental in me settling into the mainstream recruit training program with ease,” he said.
