Queensland to open nurse-lef clinic for women’s health

Queensland will establish four nurse-led clinics to improve healthcare access for women and girls, removing barriers such as cost and transport.

The clinics will operate seven days a week from 8am to 10pm, requiring no bookings or referrals. They will be located in easily accessible areas, such as shopping centres, with public transport and parking nearby.

Offering free care regardless of Medicare status, the clinics will provide treatment for minor injuries, infections, colds and flu, as well as women’s health services including contraception, maternal care, menopause advice, and support for domestic and sexual violence victims.

While focused on women’s health, anyone over one year old can receive treatment. The clinics will complement existing GP services, ensuring patients with more complex needs are directed to appropriate care.
