Queenslanders Encouraged to Experience Agriculture at Ekka 2024

The Miles Government has partnered with AgForce to invite Queenslanders to this year’s Ekka and learn about the state’s world-class food and fibre industry.

Minister for Agricultural Industry Development and Fisheries and Minister for Rural Communities Mark Furner and AgForce CEO Michael Guerin visited the Brisbane Showgrounds Main Arena to watch the beef stud cattle competition—just one of many highlights of this year’s Ekka.

The Miles Government is supporting this year’s event with a $150,000 sponsorship, continuing a long-standing partnership that brings the bush to Brisbane.

Saturday’s program alone features an apiculture competition, a paddock-to-plate VR experience, horticultural displays, a sugarcane showcase, and competitions in beef, lamb, and poultry. Classic favourites such as strawberry sundaes and the woodchop competition are also back.

Minister Mark Furner encouraged attendance, saying, “There has never been a better time to come to the Ekka. It’s a golden opportunity for folks, particularly those who live in Brisbane and surrounds, to speak to Queensland’s primary producers and see the breadth of extraordinary agriculture our state produces.”

AgForce CEO Michael Guerin added, “The locally grown, healthy food we find on our supermarket shelves 365 days a year comes from the producers who are at the Ekka and would welcome the chance to showcase what they do.”

The Ekka is open daily until Sunday, 18 August.
