Registration plate thefts on the rise

POLICE are warning of an increase in registration plate thefts across the Sunshine Coast in the past two weeks.

Since March 1, there have been over 18 registration plate thefts recorded on the Sunshine Coast.

Police are urging vehicle owners to secure their plates to vehicles using anti-theft one way screws and to park in a lockable garage if possible.

Senior Constable Rebecca McMeniman said registration plate theft had a larger impact on the community with links between number plate thefts and other crimes including fuel drive offs, property offences and toll evasions.

The anti-theft one way screws can be purchased at selected hardware stores and automotive retailers.
