A woman whose car containing her prosthetic limbs was stolen from Beerwah train station has spoken of her relief after police recovered the vehicle intact.
Gladstone resident Katie Genn had parked her Holden Colorado ute on the Beerwah Parade side of the station on October 28 before travelling to Brisbane for a medical appointment related to her leg amputation following a horse-riding accident a decade ago.
When she returned around midday, the car was gone. Inside were her artificial limbs, including a specialised prosthetic leg for horse riding and a running blade.
Her aunt, Barb Bowler, who Ms Genn had been staying with, raised the alarm on social media, sparking widespread concern in the local community.
A Queensland Police Service spokesperson confirmed Beerwah police were investigating, reviewing CCTV footage and pursuing several lines of inquiry.
Ms Genn said she was contacted by police on October 30 and told the ute had been found, with the prosthetics still inside.
“It was such a huge relief,” she said. “They just let me know they found it, so I’m waiting on more information. It looks okay, from what I’ve heard.”
The 30-year-old said she had been seeing specialists to adjust her everyday prosthetic leg.
After years of surgeries following the horse-riding accident, she underwent amputation three years ago and has since rebuilt her mobility.
“We tried to keep the leg for a while, but it just wasn’t working,” she said. “Since the amputation, things have been a lot better.”
