Newly released maps for the $5.5 billion Wave Rail project reveal some of the extensive upgrades and alterations set for the hinterland, including a planned overpass across Steve Irwin way and road upgrades around Beerwah train station.

In Beerwah, upgrades are flagged for Mawhinney Street where it meets Steve Irwin Way, as well as potential improvements to Beerwah Parade and Old Landsborough Road. Maps also identify developments at Irwin Road, with future overpasses or underpasses to replace existing level crossings.
The planning documents make clear that space is being reserved for construction works and that corridor widths may still shift as procurement and design progress.
Active transport links are also proposed, with cycling and pedestrian connections within two kilometres of Beerwah station.

The new maps show how the Wave will verge towards the coast just past Newells Road intersection before heading east along Irwin Rd to Bell’s Creek new train station.
The Wave, which will ultimately connect to Maroochydore with a further rail line and bus route, is forecast to be finished by the 2032 Brisbane Olympics.
