Sewing bringing locals together

The Glass House Mountains Community Hall opens its doors from 11am-2pm on the 4th Sunday each month for people to come together and indulge in their creative hobbies.

Some people bring sewing machines while others bring handcrafts like embroidery, knitting and crochet. Second Stitch Collective members bring sustainable sewing projects in line with their goal of reducing textile waste. A sewing machine and overlocker are available for use at the sessions.

At the August “Sewcial Circle/Sustainable Sewing” session, there was lots of chatting, cutting, stitching and sharing of ideas and inspiration. One member sewed curtains for the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital and a new member did decoupage.

“I haven’t gotten my sewing machine out since last time I was here,” said fashion upcycler, Hannah. “That’s why it works so well for me to put aside time each month to come here and actually work on my sewing projects.”

The group is encouraging and supportive and open to any skill level. The next Sewcial Sewing Circle/Sustainable Sewing session is on Sunday the 27th of September. Entry is by gold coin donation and everyone is welcome. BYO lunch/snacks/drinks/projects.
