Skin cancer warning as weather warms

WITH thousands of skin assessments and procedures performed at Health Hub Doctors Morayfield each year, local doctors are urging residents not to put off potentially life-saving skin checks as the region heads towards the warmer months.

The clinic is highlighting the importance of early detection, particularly for people with fair skin, long-term sun exposure or sunburn, a personal or family history of skin cancer, or unusual-looking moles.

Doctors recommend people have a skin check every 12 months, while higher-risk patients may require more frequent checks, with the Morayfield Health Hub providing comprehensive skin cancer assessments, diagnostic testing and treatment services.

Doctors at the clinic provide skin checks, biopsies, excisions, grafts and flaps, as well as cosmetic removal of moles and lesions.

Some doctors also offer FotoFinder full-body mapping, which can be used as part of skin monitoring and assessment.

Those at higher risk can include people with a history of melanoma or other skin cancers, a large number of moles, previous sun damage, previous tanning bed use, older age and people who have spent significant time working outdoors, including roofers, landscapers, tradespeople and tree loppers.

Morayfield Health Hub’s experienced doctors perform thousands of skin assessments and procedures each year, with the team consisting of Dr Ahmed Elsedfy, Dr Alireza Khakzadeh, Dr Ejike Udeze, Dr Parul Christian, Dr Ehsan Omidian and Dr Maureen Hollyoak.

Initial consultation costs vary by doctor, with follow-up treatment costs depending on the doctor’s billing policy. FotoFinder full-body mapping is also available with selected doctors for $200, with no Medicare rebate.

The Morayfield Health Hub is located at 19-31 Dickson Road, Morayfield, and open 7 days, from 8am to 8pm, with bookings available online through the HotDoc app or by calling 07 5322 4900.
