Spring has sprung – so have the weeds

By Coochie Hydrogreen Lawn Services

Most years, spring is about waking your lawn back up. This year, a lot of local lawns never really went to sleep — our wetter than normal winter kept weeds ticking along nicely, and now that the sun’s out and temperatures are climbing, they’re not just waking up, they’re taking off.

Bindii, clover, and weeds generally that quietly established themselves over those damp months are now getting a growth spurt right alongside your lawn, and they’ve had a head start.

If they were left untreated through winter, spring warmth is exactly what lets them go to seed and spread even further, so this is the window to get on top of them before they set up shop for another year.

At the same time, your lawn itself is hungry. After a wet winter, soil can be low on nutrients, and grass coming out of a slower growth period needs the right feed to bounce back thick and healthy rather than patchy.

A good spring fertilise now does double duty — it gives your lawn the strength to outcompete weeds and sets you up for a lawn you’ll actually want to spend time on once the warmer months properly arrive.

Our advice for Glass House Mountains, Hinterland, and Beerwah homeowners: don’t assume winter weeds have run their course just because the season’s changed — check what’s actually happening in your lawn, and get ahead of it now before the weeds take control.

With Christmas and those long, sunny school holiday days on the horizon, there’s nothing better than family and friends kicking back on a lawn that actually looks the part. A bit of attention now means it’s ready well before the backyard cricket and Boxing Day gatherings kick off.

We’ve grown to two trucks on the road since we started, which means we can now get to more lawns across the region, sooner.
