Summer concerts return; Viva la Cello at Eudlo hall

THE Sunshine Coast’s much-loved summer classical music highlight is set to return, with Summer Concerts 2026 – Viva la Cello!

Bringing three intimate concerts to Eudlo Hall from January 16–18, 2026.

Now in its fourth year, the boutique regional series is presented by Cello Dreaming and celebrates the expressive power, versatility and sheer beauty of the cello.

Curated by acclaimed cellist and artistic director Louise King, the program brings together outstanding guest artists from across Australia and overseas, alongside emerging Australian musicians taking part in the Summer Intensive Retreat.

Across the weekend, audiences will be treated to a diverse and imaginative program designed to showcase the cello in all its forms.

The opening concert, Folk & Originals, blends traditional toe-tapping reels with contemporary Americana and bluegrass-inspired works, headlined by festival favourites Those Folk.

The second concert, Baroque & Tango, pairs the elegance of Baroque classics with the fire and pulse of tango, featuring music by Piazzolla, De Falla and other iconic composers.

The series culminates in Classical Cellissimo!, a grand finale featuring international master cellists György Déri and Rachel Johnston, joined by Louise King and the Retreat Cello Choir for a diverse program that includes a world premiere.

Ms King said the series offered a rare musical experience in a regional setting.

“This is Australia’s only summer concert series dedicated entirely to the cello and it’s a joyful celebration of sound and community,” she said.

“We bring world-class artists into a small hall, and the energy is electric. Eudlo becomes cello utopia for one weekend.” She said audiences were often surprised by the calibre of performances.

“Audiences tell us every year that they can’t believe concerts of this calibre happen in a tiny hinterland hall world-class music, up close, and unforgettable,” Ms King said.

“There is nothing else in Australia quite like this: a whole weekend centred on the cello, community and creative collaboration.”

The series also places a strong emphasis on nurturing the next generation of musicians, providing meaningful performance opportunities for advanced young cellists and developing artists.
