Support The Salvos on the Sunshine Coast

THE Salvation Army is hoping to raise $3 million throughout Queensland in its annual Christmas Appeal to support Aussies doing it tough during the festive season.

Auxiliary Lieutenant Karen Clark of the Caloundra Corps said Christmas was the busiest time of the year for The Salvos and they expected this year to be no different.

“While Christmas is a time of joy and celebration for many, others doing it tough in our community find it an extremely difficult period for them personally,” Auxiliary Lieutenant Clark said.

“Anyone in need this Christmas can reach out to us at 119 Sugar Bag Road, Little Mountain or by calling 5491 8653 and we’ll do all we can to support you.

“We don’t want anyone to go it alone this year. If you need food, gifts, financial support or are feeling lonely, please get in touch with us.”

Caloundra Salvos will host a number of local events this year at its Sugar Bag Road site.

“We’ll hold a carols service in our outdoor chapel on Sunday, December 19 at 5.30pm, and a Christmas Day service at 9am,” Auxiliary Lieutenant Clark said.

“We’ll even enjoy an informal time of family worship on Boxing Day entitled Leftovers at 10am in our Mission Centre.”

For financial and emergency assistance, people can contact the national financial support service on 1300 371 288 from 9am-5pm Monday-Friday.

The Salvos need the generosity of the public to support locals doing it really tough.

Local Family stores at Beerwah and Maleny also provide affordable options for Christmas shopping this year.

Whether it’s a fresh Christmas Day outfit, present ideas for the family or a DIY decoration project for the house, there is always something special to be found. Funds raised in the Family Stores support missions in the local area.

“Christmas offers us a time to reflect and connect with one another and celebrate the joy of community,” Auxiliary Lieutenant Clark said.

“Connection will be more important than ever this year, so look out for your mate, check in on family and embrace the true meaning of Christmas. From all of us at The Salvos, we wish you a very happy Christmas.”
