Surf Life Saving Queensland’s biggest partnership in history

Surf Life Saving Queensland is partnering with the state government through a new $125 million ten year service agreement, and is the association’s largest deal in it’s history.

The agreement will start on July 1 2024, and the boost is set to benefit every Surf Life Saving club in Queensland.

This investment builds on the already existing four year $30m commitment which commenced in 2020, which will conclude at the end of this financial year.

The partnership will assist in improving Surf Life Saving Queensland club’s infrastructure and equipment, which will help the more than 35,000 volunteer members with the club keep beach goers safe.

It’s hoped the boost will help grow volunteer and club numbers even further.

$113 million over 10 years for the Service Agreement will provide certainty and to support SLSQ’s long-term plans, including increasing membership, and integrating with the Government Wireless Network.

President of Surf Life Saving Queensland, Gerard O’Brien, said this funding agreement will ensure volunteers can continue to do what they do best, saving lives.

“Our mission is zero preventable deaths in Queensland public waters and this funding will ensure we can invest in our members, our equipment and our lifesaving capability so we can achieve this mission,” he said.

“It is dedicated Queenslanders who patrol our beaches and work tirelessly to keep the community safe.

“This funding is an investment in them and an acknowledgement of the valuable service they provide to Queensland.”
