Telstra maintenance to affect Sunshine Coast University Hospital

Telstra will carry out scheduled maintenance on a mobile site servicing the Sunshine Coast University Hospital, causing temporary reductions in mobile coverage across the area.

The telecommunications provider has advised that mobile services may be intermittently affected while upgrade works are underway. The site will be switched off for short periods on Thursday 15 January and Friday 16 January, with intermittent outages expected between 7am and 7pm on both days.

Telstra said the works will not affect landline services, the NBN or other broadband internet connections. Emergency access will also remain available, with any calls to Triple Zero made from a Telstra mobile during outages automatically diverted to another available mobile network.

Customers experiencing reduced coverage are encouraged to use Wi-Fi Calling, a free feature available on most modern smartphones, which allows calls and text messages to be made over a Wi-Fi connection.

Local businesses are also advised to speak with their banks about connecting EFTPOS terminals to NBN or Wi-Fi services to avoid transaction delays during the maintenance period.

Telstra said the works are part of ongoing efforts to improve network reliability and performance. For further information, Telstra media enquiries can be directed to media@team.telstra.com.
