Thieves arrested after break-ins across Glasshouse Country

POLICE have thwarted a pair of thieves who staged a series of break-ins across Glasshouse Country last weekend.

Two men targeted Glasshouse Mountains Newsagency, the next door IGA, Beerwah Fresh ‘n’ Save, Mooloolah IGA and Landsborough IGA in early morning raids last Sunday.

The pair, who were not locals, were targeting cigarettes, according to police.

Glasshouse Mountains Newsagency owner, Allan, said he got a call at 2.39am that his property had been broken in to, but by the time he arrived less than 20 minutes later, the thieves had fled.

“They tried to smash into the IGA first but that was blocked we think,” he said.

“Then they came through our windows and pulled everything apart, smashed into a cupboard with a sledgehammer and basically just made a big mess.

“I think they were trying to get cigarettes, which are worth a small fortune.”

The pair then went to Beerwah where they targeted the Fresh n Save, then Landsborough and Mooloolah.

Police arrested the two and say they are not looking for anyone else.
