Timber celebration

THE Sunshine Coast will showcase timber craftsmanship and sustainable design from May 1–4, 2026, with the return of the Montville Timber Trail and the Sunshine Coast Wootha Prize.

The Montville Timber Trail, running May 2–3, will transform multiple venues across Montville into a hub of woodworking, design and artisan activity.

Visitors can explore timber sales at St Mary’s Hall, hands-on workshops and stalls at Montville Village Hall, and fine furniture and artisan displays at The Edge gallery.

A highlight of the program is the Sunshine Coast Wootha Prize, alongside the launch of the inaugural William Bayliss Commemorative Prize a $10,000 award honouring one of Australia’s most respected furniture makers.

The prize has attracted a strong national field, featuring both emerging and established makers presenting contemporary timber works under the theme “Sustainable by Nature, Beautiful by Design”.

Festivities begin on Friday, May 1, with an opening night and awards presentation at the Glass House in Montville, where winners across furniture, sculpture and small works categories will be announced.

Event organisers say the weekend offers a rare opportunity for the public to meet makers and experience high-quality craftsmanship up close.

Tickets for the opening night are $20, with general exhibition entry $8 for adults, $5 concession and free for children under 16. Proceeds support Barung Landcare’s environmental initiatives.
