A DESIRE to ‘try’ and retire is the catalyst for Glass on Glasshouse and The Lookout Café owners Grant Attwood and Darrell Tucker to put their much-loved businesses on the market.
The luxury accommodation and café set on 21 acres – both with sweeping views of the Glasshouse Mountains – is being marketed by McGrath Coast and Hinterland’s Cassie Nuske and is yours for around $4,995,000.
On the property, there is a main residence with an uncomplicated open living plan, and three self-contained villas with stunning views, all designed by acclaimed architect Norman Richards.
Grant and Darrell who have owned the property for nearly eight years was hoping the sale would allow them to settle down. “It’s time for a change, I guess that seven-year itch calls I suppose, and we are pretty well trying—emphasis on the ‘try’—to retire,” Grant said.
“When I say try, I mean it’s a bit difficult to go from having a business like this to retiring because it’s almost like polar opposites.
“That’s the plan and we have a place at the coast already, so we will move to the coast.” The pair said they have loved being part of the Glass House community for almost a decade and appreciated all the support they have received.
“It’s been a great eight years and I think what we will miss the most is the view,” Grant said. “It’s a beautiful spot—it’s just absolutely stunning, and we are very lucky to be here, and we feel very blessed to be here.
“There’s some amazing people that live around here, there’s some great suppliers, and there’s always something to do.” Although there has been significant interest, Grant said it was important to sell to the right buyer, with a similar mindset about the businesses.
“When you’ve done this for so long, and we’ve got a well-oiled machine, and we’ve put a lot of love into this property, it’s very difficult to move on, so it’s about finding the right people,” he said.
“The best person to take it over would have to be someone who has the same vision as we do. “There’s still a lot of development potential because we have development approval in place for another three villas—we’ve got three already
