Try touch this summer!

By Kirra Livingstone

By Kirra Livingstone THE Maleny and WItta Touch Association will hold their sign on day on Thursday, October 3, in the hopes to attract more people to the exciting sport.

Maleny and Witta Touch Association president, Jake Heading, said he would love to have more touch players join the association.

“We are now coming into our summer season, and we would like to push our junior and senior team numbers,” he said. “We can facilitate about 10 to twelve senior teams, but for juniors we can have as many as possible, we used to have 180 juniors.”

The association plays on Friday nights at the Witta Recreational Club, and they have 6:30pm and 7:30pm playing sessions.

“It’s great to play on a Friday night because for the parents of the junior teams, we have a bar and canteen, so they can sit back and have a drink while the kids run around,” Jake said. “I think it’s the perfect way to end a week.”

Jake added that touch is one of the best sports to play, and that people should try the sport through their association. “It’s just a great way to stay active, it’s a great social activity, and it’s also just a great sport to play,” he said. “It’s fun, you can learn coordination skills from touch, and it’s just an enjoyable all round sport to play.”

So head on down to their open day from 5pm at 343 Witta Road, Witta, to see what the touch summer competition is all about! kirra@gcnews.com.au
