A 22-year-old Beerburrum man has been charged with assault after an alleged double stabbing at Glass House Mountains this week including one attack in front of school children.
Two men were allegedly stabbed multiple times with a screwdriver, with one victim requiring surgery after being stabbed in the face in the daytime attack at the Glasshouse Tavern and train station.
The first attack occurred at the tavern at around 3.30 Wednesday afternoon when a man started verbally abusing patrons.
The first victim who was coming to the aid of his wife who was being harassed was allegedly stabbed in the back. He was also stabbed in the pelvis, with the cut narrowly missing a major artery.
Witnesses said the attacker then fled towards the train station where a number of children were on the platform waiting for their service.
Three patrons followed the man and attempted to disarm him, with one stabbed multiple times in the head and shoulder, it was alleged.
The man then attempted to run across the tracks but was apprehended by police.
Both victims were transported to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital with minor injuries.
A Queensland Police spokesperson said the man was scheduled to appear in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on October 31.
“A 22-year-old Beerburrum man has been charged with two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm whilst armed/in company,” they said.
The spokesperson said the man was released on bail.
The second victim and his wife, who wished to remain anonymous, expressed fear for their safety upon learning of his release.
“He is already walking around out there, and I just think it’s a joke. Before either of us were out of hospital, he was released from custody,” the male victim said.
“It felt like he stabbed me more than he did. I honestly thought I was going to die.”
His wife, who witnessed the attack, was devastated.
“I saw him covered in blood, and it killed me. It was traumatising,” she said.
“He can’t get away with this. You can’t just stab two people and get off—it’s not okay.”
