POLICE are investigating a violent robbery involving four male perpetrators
at a Burys Road address in Beerwah at 11:30pm on November 27.
The men made a forced entry into the property, by smashing through the
victims front glass door with a suspected bat, and one male was in possession
of a firearm.
Sunshine Coast Police Detective Senior Sergeant, Craig Mansfield, said the
men then made their way into the 75-year-old male and 71-year-old female
occupants bedroom, where they were held there against their will for a period
of time.
“They were both asleep in bed and were awoken by the two males that
came into their room and were basically told to get on the floor,” he
said.
“Threats were made against them to hand over their cash and some other
items of property including vehicle keys.
“During that incident there, the elderly male who was 75 years of age
has put his arm up to defend himself and one of those males has struck him in
the arm with a weapon.”
Although the victim’s vehicles were not stolen, their mobile phones were,
which delayed the process of reporting the ordeal, meaning they had to drive to
the Caboolture Police Station to report the incident.
“[It was] pretty harrowing for them to drive under those circumstances,
but they felt that was the best opportunity for them to report that,” he
said.
Investigations are still in its early stages, and has been made difficult as
the police has no information of the perpetrators identity due to hoodies
covering their faces, or how they fled the Burys Road home.
“They’ve fled the area by an unknown means… we are really hoping that
some residents in the area and around the Beerwah precinct will be able to help
us with some direction of travel, whether they were on foot, whether they were
in a vehicle,” Detective Senior Sergeant Mansfield said.
“It was a terrifying incident for sure, it was really violent, lots of
threats made, so we are really hoping that someone in the community observed
something as they were driving past, some dashcam, any CCTV in the area would
be really helpful.”
Beerwah has been victim to a number of high profile crimes as of late,
included suspected and confirmed arsons and cemetery plaque thefts.
Although Detective Senior Sergeant Mansfield said the crimes aren’t
connected, people should remain alert.
“If people are in that area please stay diligent, if you have cameras,
turn them on, there’s no suggestion at this point in time that they will return
but we can never rule any of those things out,” he said.
More to come.
