Fisher MP, Andrew Wallace, is continuing to hold strong on his advocacy to implement age verification on online pornography.
He said he is aiming to protect young Australians from harmful online content and making the internet a safer place for all.
“There is an irrefutable correlation between the access and use of hardcore pornography and domestic violence,” Mr Wallace said.
“Access to hardcore porn leads to increased instances of domestic violence. If you maintain that access, then you are effectively giving free license to domestic violence.
“Nobody wants that. We all want domestic violence to be something of yesteryear but, to do that, one of the things we can do is to limit access to hardcore pornography for young people.”
Studies show the link between pornography and domestic violence includes reinforced harmful gender stereotypes; unhealthy and sexist views of women and sex; and condoning violence against women.
The total number of women’s deaths by alleged violence in 2023 has climbed to 71, according to Australian Femicide Watch.
Last month, the Albanese Government voted down the Opposition’s motion to trial age verification technology which would have helped keep children safe online, as recommended by the eSafety Commissioner.
