THE Sunshine Coast Council is urging residents to remain cautious of scam emails asking for payment of rates into bank accounts supplied.
The SCC said it had become aware of a small number of incidents where a scammer has emailed residents asking for payment of rates using a BSB and bank account number.
The council said it never asks those to pay rates into a bank account and the rates should be paid as per the notice states.
If you do receive an email like this and feel it may be a scam email, the Council asks you to report these emails to www.scamwatch.gov.au, so it can be dealt with in an appropriate manner.
Under the circumstances you have received an email like this and have paid money to the scam accounts, contact Policelink on 131 444 so the matter can be investigated by police.
