Which bank ripped out its ATM?

THE Commonwealth Bank wasted no time in completing its abandonment of the hinterland after closing its last branch in the region on September 2.

With the branch closed and gutted the banking giant also removed its ATM (pictured) leaving customers with no easy way of completing large withdrawals.

A CBA staffer is available at the Beerwah Australia Post to answer enquiries but only for a few hours on a Tuesday and Thursday and only in September.

The only ATMs in a region reliant on cash transactions is at BoQ at Beerwah Marketplace and a couple of Redi ATMs.

The CBA was the last of the Big 4 banks to move out of the area. It followed the ANZ which closed its branch in 2021.

At the time of the announcement the CBA said it had recorded a 33 per cent drop in transactions over the five years before the coronavirus pandemic.

The bank said staff would be offered other customer-service “opportunities”.
