The Miles Government has released the 2024 Annual Queensland Women’s Statement (AQWS) and the 2023 Gender Equality Report Cards (GERC) during Queensland Women’s Week.
The statement outlines progress in implementing the Queensland Women’s Strategy 2022-2027, including increased female participation in STEM and construction, and a narrowing gender pay gap. Workforce participation and superannuation disparities are also improving.
The employment gap between women with and without disability has shrunk from 18 per cent in 2016 to 14.9 per cent in 2021.
Despite these gains, women continue to do more unpaid work, face higher risks of violence, and retire with less financial security. More than 30 per cent of women rely on a partner’s income in retirement, compared to six per cent of men.
The government has reaffirmed its commitment to addressing these challenges and advancing gender equality through the Queensland Women’s Strategy 2022-27.
