IT WAS a big day for Woodfordia, home of the Woodford Folk Festival, yesterday with the launch of 20 new permanent glamping tents, officially opened by the Minister for Tourism, Stirling Hinchliffe.
Moreton Bay Regional Council Mayor Councillor Peter Flannery and Councillor Tony Latter, Member for Glass House Andrew Powell and Queensland Tourism officials attended the opening, and all welcomed the addition of these luxury glamping tents to the camping options available at Woodfordia.
Minister Hinchliffe said the 20 tents will be a permanent fixture at Woodfordia, with each accommodating up to four people and fully furnished with beds, seating, kitchen facilities and an ensuite bathroom.
“The Queensland Government supported their construction, awarding the project $1.2 million through the $25 million Growing Tourism Infrastructure Fund 2020/21,” Minister Hinchliffe said.
“Their project supported seven jobs during construction and will create three ongoing operational jobs and will be a significant visitor drawcard for the region.
“This new tourism facility will attract 17,000 new visitors annually, providing an annual boost of $28.6 million to the local Moreton Bay hinterland economy.”
“This was a great day for us because getting these built during covid and the poor weather has been very challenging” said Woodfordia Inc. General Manager Amanda Jackes.
“The units are suitable for couples and families, and are in a private bush setting, very close to our beautiful natural swimming lake, Lake Gkula . They offer a centrally located retreat space from which guests can easily dip in and out of the delights of the festival” said Amanda.
The glamping tents will be available, along with the usual options of pitch luxury tents, tent city and BYO camping for Woodford Folk Festival, and will provide another accommodation choice for individuals and families needing to bring only themselves to events on site.
“Woodfordia is aiming to develop a new business around them to satisfy Australians love affair with the great outdoors. This has been a critical move by Woodford Folk Festival to make the business sustainable due to COVID.” said Amanda.
Executive director Bill Hauritz said, “It is wonderful to see these tents completed and ready for our patrons to enjoy. Supply issues due to COVID certainly played with our timeline, so we are so excited to share them now with everyone.”
These tents will be available for bookings year-round, not only for Woodford Folk Festival but also for private functions and Lake Gkula Camping Weekends over spring holidays and next year’s Easter holidays.
Glam units are yet another way to enjoy time at Woodfordia as it grows, blooms, and evolves into a new era after ‘The Great Pause’, the global pandemic
