Zonta honours local volunteers

THE Zonta Club of Blackall Range has celebrated the extraordinary commitment of its long-serving members, including one volunteer who has dedicated more than four decades to improving the lives of women and girls.

At the club’s August 18 meeting, president Margy Henderson presented member Judi Ross-Smith with a special award recognising more than 41 years of service to Zonta.

Judi began her Zonta journey in Armidale, NSW, before joining the Blackall Range club in 2015.

The club also recently recognised a number of other long-serving members, with awards marking between seven and 28 years of service to Zonta and the wider community.

The awards recognise countless hours of volunteering, fundraising and advocacy aimed at improving the lives of women and girls locally and around the world.

The club said the milestone awards were also an opportunity to reflect on the strength of its membership and the important role volunteers continue to play in supporting local initiatives and broader Zonta programs.

Over the years, members have helped raise awareness of issues affecting women and girls while also building strong connections with community organisations across the Blackall Range.

“With members from right across the Blackall Range, from Nambour to Witta, the club is proud to honour these remarkable volunteers – including our founding members,” Ms Henderson said.“Their enduring service reflects the spirit of Zonta and demonstrates the power of people working together for community and human rights.”

Recipients were thanked for their passion and generosity, with the club acknowledging the important role long-serving members have played in strengthening Zonta’s impact and inspiring future generations of volunteers.

The Zonta Club of Blackall Range meets monthly in Maleny and welcomes guests and new members interested in supporting its work for women and girls.
