Zonta’s super garden street stall

ZONTA Club of Blackall Range members have been working for months propagating and growing plants for you to buy in time for summer planting or Christmas gifts at their stall to be held on Wednesday, December 1 at the Kiosk in Maple Street Maleny from 8.30am.

Coordinators Linda McElrea and Lyndel Grant are garden lovers with green thumbs. They are pleased with their hard work (and the friends they have coerced into helping) and urge patrons to be early to get the best choice of plants, with prices starting at $5.

“Of course, it is a fundraising effort for the work Zonta does in the community and around the world but the plants we have will be good value and there will be a great variety,” Linda said.

“We know how much people across the range love their gardens, so we expect plants will go quickly.

“We have succulents, day lilies, hydrangeas, geraniums and many other flowering plants.

“A special feature will be hanging baskets already planted, so the hard work is done. All you have to do is enjoy them,” she said.

As well as the plants there will be a range of delightful hand-painted pots, so think Christmas, lots of jams, preserves and baked goodies, all homemade, and bags of macadamia nuts for the Christmas table.

Customers will have the chance to buy tickets in a raffle for the best Christmas hamper ever according to Linda and Lyndel.

Internationally, Zontians work with the United Nations to assist the women of Afghanistan. Locally, Zonta supports the Women’s House for homeless women and the club is a foundation member of the Speak Up Now movement bringing awareness of support for victims and perpetrators of domestic and family violence to the people of the Blackall Range community.
