FOLLOWING community feedback, travellers who use the Peachester-Beerwah Flexilink transport service will have a new timetable from December 1.
Flexilink services provide affordable, reliable and accessible public transport to people with few transport options.
Costing only $2 ($1 child/concession), the pre-booked service runs three return trips a day Monday-Saturday and provides connections to TransLink train and railbus services at Beerwah station.
The community feedback has resulted in a change to the morning service, which will start later. The Beerwah to Peachester service will now depart at 7.40am, 11.50am and 5.30pm Monday-Friday and 8.30am, 11.50am and 5.30pm on Saturday and public holidays.
The Peachester to Beerwah service will now depart at 8am, 12.10pm and 5.50pm Monday to Friday and 8.50am, 12.10pm and 5.50pm on Saturday and public holidays.
Transport portfolio councillor Rick Baberowski said the changes would help to improve the viability of the service.
“We undertook a survey in June to gain feedback from the community and we’ve identified a few timetable changes, particularly the timing of the first morning service, which will hopefully see increased passenger numbers,” Cr Baberowski said.
“Unfortunately, this service is currently under supported and we hope these changes will see increased participation to ensure its viability into the future.
“It has to be said that if residents want the service to continue then passenger numbers need to increase or it may not make sense for it to continue.”
The new timetable begins from Wednesday, December 1, with patronage numbers to be reassessed in six months before a decision is made about the future of the service.
Flexilink services are funded by Sunshine Coast Council’s transport levy on a trial basis to determine the demand for bus services in areas with limited public transport. To book a Flexilink service phone 1300 511 163.
Bookings must be made at least two hours ahead of departure or by 9pm the previous evening for the first morning service.
