Explore doing death differently

By Sonia Isaacs

Local group TULE (Tying Up Loose Ends) is hosting their annual end of year event ‘You Can Ask That!’, a space created for entertainment and conversations that encourage exploration of ‘doing death differently’. This year’s end of year gathering will be held on Sunday November 19 from 1.30pm-5pm at the Maleny Neighbourhood Centre. TULE spokesperson, Fleur Adamson, said every year since forming in 2020, the group entertained the community with a special event that included music, poetry, song and collaboration.
This last event for 2023 includes an award-winning documentary ‘Live the life you please’, which explores end-of-life care and how it can transform the lives of Australians across the country. This beautifully evocative and insightful documentary depicts real life stories of individuals and families who face challenges relating to death and end of life care.
Fleur said she encourages anyone who may be curious about the end of life passage to come along.
“This documentary creates an emotional journey for the viewers, as it will change the way you think about the last chapter of life,” said Fleur.
Following the movie, there will be a panel for Q&A’s, which will include Dr Peter Westoby from Hummingbird House, as well as experts involved with Palliative Care, Spiritual Care, Death Doula’s, and End-of-Life care to share their expertise, and offer answers to whatever ‘burning questions’ audience members may have.
Maleny Players member, Ross Hurwood, will also present an entertaining short skit highlighting another illustration of ‘life challenges’. After a cuppa and conversation, TULE will introduce the groups’ new focus for 2024, which involves exploring grief in the context of aging for both young and old individuals. TULE encourages open discussions about such important and often overlooked topics, and hopes the community will join them. For more information contact Fleur on 0409 470 822.
