Maleny Garden Club members are a dedicated and hard-working bunch of gardeners who enjoy sharing their passion with the rest of the community at their annual community fundraising events, and this year’s Spring Fair held in early October was another resounding success.
To recognize and reward the member’s efforts in preparing for and hosting this wonderful event Club President, Jan Maguire and Secretary Helen Cartwright decided to transform the group’s regular monthly meeting into a special celebration.
With the assistance from Lea Parkes, owner of Vintage Whimsy Crockery Hire, who supplied a rather quirky selection of crockery requirements, and the creative talents of Anita Futcher, the Old Witta School was transformed for a morning of fun and frivolity.
Jan said earlier this year Anita suggested the idea of holding a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party and our October meeting seemed like a perfect time to celebrate.
“Anita and her assistant Annette Lees did an amazing job with creating beautiful mad hatter themed floral arrangements for the tables, while Anita also did a wonderful job in taking on the unenviable task of judging the ‘best hat’ categories on the day,” Jan said.
Not surprisingly, many of the hats incorporated strong floral themes, and one of the standout entries was made from a plastic pot sprouting beautiful hydrangeas.
