Mooloolah Men’s Shed fast-tracked

After years of discussions, numerous setbacks and bureaucratic delays, the long-held vision for a Mooloolah Men’s Shed is finally set to become a reality, with a project completion date scheduled for January 2023. Members of the Mooloolah Community Men’s Shed Inc. (MCMS) and Mooloolah Valley Community Association (MVCA) are understandably ecstatic that after four long years of discouraging hold-ups and set-backs, the project is now being fast tracked earthworks scheduled to commence next month.

Colin Roy, president of MCMS said the association had been advised by supplier Sunshine Sheds and Garages, that the custom shed kit will be delivered in September, and weather permitting, the build to commence October 2022, with a possibility the space may be ready to be furnished by Christmas 2022. He said this news was both exciting and a huge relief after all the years of frustration.

“This project is set to deliver a fantastic community facility for Mooloolah, and a proactive way to support the mental health and wellbeing of our men.

“We look forward to creating a welcoming and safe space for our local men to connect and socialise with others, learn new skills, and explore hobbies and interests,” said Colin.

The site for the shed will be located directly behind the Mooloolah Community Centre. MCMS committee member Trevor Stewart said the shed will be approximately 400m2 consisting of a woodworking space, a metal workspace, general meeting area, kitchen and office space.

He said currently the MCMS association had around 50 members, and as the build commenced and community interest ignited, he hoped to see many more get involved.
