More housing mix for Maleny

WITH the current dire housing situation in Maleny, locals want more supply and the right mix of housing options to accommodate a variety of needs.

A new development application to Sunshine Coast Council for land on Coral Street appears to be a good fit to this, with one-, two- and three-bedroom units.

The material change of use application over 34 Coral Street Maleny aims to provide two three-bedroom double storey units, with another three double storey units with a single bedroom apartment downstairs and a two-bedroom apartment upstairs.

This makes for eight separate dwellings in total including three one-bedroom, three two-bedroom and two three-bedroom units within the complex.

The planning report said the application provided a mix of affordable housing options that were sought after in the local area.

However, the planning report also noted that the concept covered more of the site (by 3%) and higher density than the planning scheme suggests, with the equivalent of 77 dwellings per hectare rather than the 30-50 range in the planning scheme.
