Morning shock for Mooloolah family after brazen robbery

A MOOLOOLAH family has been left shaken after waking this morning to find their home had been broken into and their car stolen.

Jade Maleny told GC&M News that at some time between 11pm and 6am, someone had gained entry to the home on Dorson Drive and stolen their Mercedes CLS 450 magneto.

“My husband, daughters and myself were asleep and did not wake us, or our dogs,” said Jade. “Everyone is okay, it just feels surreal and very violated someone has been in our home while we were all sleeping.”

Jade explained that the keys had been taken from a drawer inside their property, although nothing else seemed to have been touched.

The thieves had allegedly tried to break into a neighbour’s house with a resident saying she had found evidence of an attempted break-in.

She shared that it has been an emotional day, and as a single mother with a little boy, feels quite unsafe now.

Beerwah Police Station’s Senior Sergeant Brendan Davis confirmed with GC&M News that two properties in Mooloolah Valley had reported break and enter/attempted break and enter overnight, however while it is possible they were related they were unable to confirm at this stage if the two were linked.

“The properties were located directly opposite each other and forensic teams have examined both properties this morning,” Sergeant Davis said. “A motor vehicle was stolen from one of the properties but has not yet been recovered.”

He told GC&M News it was unusual to see activity like this in Mooloolah, particularly as it quite secluded and not necessarily easy to get to. While it is not common for the town to experience high crime levels, this does not mean the area is protected against crime.

Sgt Davies said there have been no trends in the last six months for this type of crime activity in the area.

He said it was a timely reminder for residents to to be lax when it comes to securing their property, sharing that most places remain unaffected, until they are not, so it is important to add that extra layer of security.

If you have any information or have seen the vehicle with the number plate Q JMR 84 contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
