Barratt Industries servicing your excavation needs

By Kirra Livingstone

BARRATT Industries is the Sunshine Coast Hinterland’s newest family owned mini excavations business, started by Glass House Mountains locals Nathan and Leah Barratt.

Established early this year, Barratt Industries has been providing mini excavations and retaining wall services to areas including the Glass House Mountains, Maleny, Beerwah and Landsborough.

Through servicing local tradies such as plumbers, concreters, electricians and builders, as well as home owners, Nathan ensures quality community customer service through the family run operation.

“We support local by providing our services to, not only mums and dads but local trades as-well, smaller local businesses using other small local businesses is what it’s all about,” Nathan said.

“What sets us aside from bigger businesses is we turn up, we’re the friendly little guys and we are a lot nicer, and we actually do what we say and be there when we say we’re going to be there.”

Barratt Industries has been receiving a lot of local business since opening, and Nathan credits this to an amazing community effort in supporting his business.

“I think the community is just really good at supporting local businesses and support small family run businesses rather than a giant mob that don’t really look after you,” he said.

“The local business we get is important to us because it keeps us going, we really want to look after our customers.”

Although Nathan was most recently working as a mechanical engineer, he previously had a extensive career in the mines, and it just made sense for him to transition back into mini excavations.

“I started this business for a change of career, previously a mechanical engineer, I needed a change and the desire to work for ourselves and have more flexibility and opportunity,” he said.

“I was in the mines for 11 years until I became an engineer, and then when we moved to Glasshouse I wanted to get back into excavations and start this business up.”

The business has been operating for most of this year, and Nathan said he has really been enjoying running Barratt Industries with his wife.

“My wife and I run the business together, I do the mini excavations and retaining wall service, and my wife does the businesses accounts and helps out on site as well,” he said.

“Leah is a stay at home mum, looking after and raising 4 young kids, when she’s not elbows deep in piles of washing, she comes and helps me with our business.”
