Dana ready for next level fighting

DANA Coolwell is on the brink of “catapulting into the stratosphere” of the boxing world as he settles on a preferred weight ahead of his next bout.

His coach Steve Pitt said he was happy they decided to move him up a weight division as Dana has fit right into featherweight, currently placed 50th best featherweight in the world.

“Featherweight is his weight, it suits him, he made the weight easy and safely, he’s a bigger featherweight too,” the Hinterland Boxing boss said.

“It was a good move, he has settled into that weight now, and I feel like he is going to be hard to beat in featherweight.”

Dana was just as happy as his coach to change weight divisions, especially after a close loss earlier in the year which inspired their decision.

“I actually felt great, I felt a lot stronger at that weight, I got a dietician and made the weight pretty easily, besides one sauna, but other then that it was good,” he said.

His next fight is expected to be in late September or early October against a previously lined up opponent, either from Indonesia or the Philippines, although no bout has been confirmed.

Steve said he wanted Dana to continue to focus on his positives, especially his defensive skills.

“His defence is just outstanding, out of all the kids in the country he’s probably the most defensive kid at present,” he said.

“He’s on the brink of catapulting into the stratosphere of boxing, he’s got another two maybe three fights and then there will be something big.”

Dana shared the same sentiment as Steve regarding his continual growth in the sport from when he debuted in 2019.

“All the hard work is starting to pay off now and I’ve just got to stay dedicated and stay in the gym, and keep chipping away,” Dana said.
