Plans for nature based park

PLANS for a nature-based tourism park including 20 camping sites at Conondale have been lodged with Sunshine Coast Council.
It follows the council issuing a show cause notice to the owners of the property, at 50 Kennedy Rd, in May last year threatening “firm action” if an application was not made. In documents lodged this month, the owners have proposed a nature-based tourism ‘Eco Park’ at the site. The property is approximately 9.15 hectares about 7.5km south of Conondale. The proposal stated a material change of use is appropriate “given the site’s unique natural values and immediate proximity to Scrub Creek and the Mary River.”
“The unique natural environment of the Mary River (i.e. connection to nature) warrants the campgrounds being defined as Nature Based Tourism, as guests are able to observe and appreciate the local ecosystem and enjoy the picturesque natural setting.”
The application states the owners will live on site as caretakers and it would only be open to guests from Thursday to Sunday.
